Former Official at U. of Idaho Pleads Guilty Over Failed Development Project

A former top official at the University of Idaho pleaded guilty this morning to two felony charges in connection with a $136-million development project that failed over questions of financial mismanagement, leaving the university’s foundation with a sizable debt and costing the university’s president his job. According to the Idaho Statesman, Jerry N. Wallace, who resigned in 2003 as the university’s chief financial officer, denied criminal intent in his guilty plea and was sentenced to probation for misuse of state funds. A settlement last spring resolved many of the disputes arising from the failed University Place project, but some investigations continue.
