1. Donna Shalala was always known as an avid, and competitive, tennis player. But when she became chancellor of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, in 1987, fund raisers there advised her to take up golf. During her tenure the university raised $700-million, and she says golf helped land a healthy slice of that sum.
