An armless man said in a lawsuit on Thursday that the University of Houston had violated federal disability law by not providing him with a note-taking service and thereby refusing to accommodate his handicap, the Houston Chronicle reported. University policy allows faculty members to decline requests for such accommodation, and a professor who taught a required course told the disabled student that he could not have a copy of her lecture notes. The course’s teaching assistants also refused to offer their services as note takers. The student dropped the course and later withdrew from the university after a dispute over an examination’s scheduling.
