For Second Year in a Row, Medical Schools See Rise in Applications; Minority Students Make Big Gains

Applications to medical schools in the United States inched up in 2004 for the second consecutive year, with women outnumbering men and both black and Hispanic students making significant gains, the Association of American Medical Colleges announced last month. Enrollments also rose this year, notably among minority students.
