For-Profit College in Colorado Faces Student Lawsuit Alleging Deception

Corinthian Colleges, the for-profit higher-education chain that is being sued in Florida by dozens of students who say it was not clear about the accreditation status of its Florida Metropolitan University (The Chronicle, November 22, 2005), is now being sued in Colorado by 14 former students of another of its institutions, Parks College, in Thornton, Colo. The federal lawsuit, as reported in The Rocky Mountain News, accuses the university of false representation and violations of the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. The students say that the college lacks the accreditation necessary for them to sit for examinations that would certify them as surgical technicians. Corinthian officials told the newspaper that they were seeking the accreditation and that, in the meantime, students could take another exam, which does satisfy some prospective employers.
