Florida's Board of Regents Wins a Reprieve (for Now) From the Legislature
At the urging of Gov. Jeb Bush, the Florida Legislature has agreed to spare the state university system's Board of Regents from abolition and to leave the board's fate up in the air.
A proposal to strip the board of much of its budget and staff was shelved this month, in the final hours of the state's annual legislative session, as lawmakers approved a sweeping reorganization of the state's education system. Aides to Governor Bush, a Republican, last week said
