Flawed Education for Teachers

To the Editor:

Professors of education are critical of Teach for America's five-week training program ("Elite Company," The Chronicle, June 22) because it lacks, inter alia, "extensive course work in teaching methods." This is in spite of the fact that there are studies that show Teach for America teachers do a better job than others, and that three out of four principals reportedly said these teachers "came in with better training than other beginning teachers."
