Firearms on the Campus

To the Editor:

Your report on the compromise between the University of Utah and the State Legislature on the carrying of concealed weapons on the campus was in the mail when the shooting in a Salt Lake City mall took place ("U. of Utah and State Legislature Are Close to Deal on Gun Ban," The Chronicle, February 16). I can't imagine any rational parent sending a child to a campus where concealed weapons could be carried. I would be disinclined to attend an academic conference in a state
