Frank Calvert was cautious, unassuming, and the epitome of the gentleman-scholar. Heinrich Schliemann was rash, flamboyant, and excelled in self-promotion. One man made the initial dig that would lead to Hisarlik's being accepted as the site of ancient Troy; the other man exploited that initiative and took full credit for Troy's discovery.
