'Fidel': History Overrun by Melodrama
At times an earnest idealist, but always larger than life, Fidel Castro is the subject of Fidel, Showtime's latest miniseries.
The tale is based mostly on Georgie Anne Geyer's Guerrilla Prince: The Untold Story of Fidel Castro (third edition, 2001), whose book jacket describes Castro as the betrayer of his own people, motivated partly by megalomania but also by extreme anti-Americanism.
