Fewer Than Half of Families Paid for Undergraduate Education with Loans This Past Year, Survey Finds
Nearly three of five families did not borrow any money to pay for college in the 2008-9 academic year, according to a survey by Sallie Mae and Gallup.
Just over 1,600 undergraduates and parents of undergraduates, ages 18 to 24, participated in the nationwide survey, which was conducted by telephone in March and April. Its findings are summarized in a report, "How America Pays for College," that was released late
