Female Scientists Trail Men in Earning Patents
Female life scientists in academe secure patents at less than half the rate of their male counterparts, three researchers report in the journal Science. The gender gap in patenting has narrowed over time, the findings show, but remains large.
Using a sample of 4,227 life scientists employed at 468 American universities, the researchers found that, compared with men, women are less likely to secure patents, and that those who do are likely to have fewer.
