Federal Panel Slams Group That Accredits Some Vocational and Technical Colleges

The Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools "is not a group that should be in the business of accreditation," said Arthur J. Rothkopf, president emeritus of Lafayette College and one of the 18 members of the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity. (While most of the commission's constituents are secondary schools, it also accredits fewer than 20 postsecondary, nondegree-granting institutions that want to be able to receive federal student aid.)
