Federal Judge Rules Against Accreditor
At a time when the U.S. Education Department is pressing accreditors to be stricter with the colleges they oversee, a federal judge has issued a ruling favorable to a small college that sued its accreditor for being too strict.
The case goes back to December 2004, when the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, or SACS, withdrew accreditation from Hiwassee College, a two-year Methodist institution in Madisonville, Tenn., for having inadequate financial resources. The college
