Federal Judge Approves Settlement of Desegregation Lawsuit in Mississippi
A federal judge has approved a $503-million plan to settle Mississippi's college-desegregation lawsuit, but the 27-year-old dispute may yet linger on, as lawyers for some of the plaintiffs have vowed to continue fighting the plan.
U.S. District Judge Neal B. Biggers Jr. wrote in a February order that the settlement leaves the state "in full compliance with the law."
