Federal Appeals Court Strikes Down Pennsylvania Law Barring Liquor Ads in Student Newspapers
A federal appeals court ruled last month that a Pennsylvania law prohibiting student newspapers from being paid for alcohol advertisements was unconstitutional.
Writing for a unanimous three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. said that the 1996 law violated the First Amendment rights of The Pitt News, the student newspaper at the University of Pittsburgh.
