Fast-Rising Tuition in China Limits Poorest Students' Ability to Obtain a Higher Education
Tuition at Chinese universities has shot up over the past 20 years, far outstripping growth in personal income and making it difficult for a growing number of students to pay for their education, says a report released in January.
The study, by the China Youth and Children Research Center, a national research institute, found that while tuition is 25 times as high as it was in 1989 — it now runs about $650 to $1,300 a year — the annual incomes of urban residents
