The Faculty Senate at Mississippi Valley State University has voted no confidence in the university’s president, Lester C. Newman. At a meeting on Tuesday, 34 of Mississippi Valley’s roughly 150 faculty members cast ballots on the president’s performance, with 33 of them turning in negative votes.
According to The Greenwood Commonwealth, a Mississippi newspaper, the professors’ misgivings with the president’s performance had to do with inconsistencies in faculty pay and a lack of professional courtesy. The faculty group does not have the power to force the president to step down, however. That authority rests with Mississippi’s College Board.
