Faculty Strike in Kenya Ends, as Universities Are Expected to Reopen Soon

A faculty strike that shut down five of Kenya’s six universities six weeks ago ended on Saturday, when the Universities Academic Staff Union, which represents professors and lecturers, agreed to return to the bargaining table, according to a report by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. Classes are expected to resume within three weeks. It was not immediately clear whether several of the strike leaders, who had been fired and locked out of their offices, would be reinstated to their posts. The main issue in the dispute is pay.
