Faculty Strike Suspended at Eastern Michigan U. as Talks Resume

Eastern Michigan University faculty members called a 24-hour halt to their strike today, as both faculty-union officials and university administrators resumed talks on a new contract, the Associated Press reported. The faculty has been on strike since September 1, over pay, health-care, and other issues (The Chronicle, September 4 and September 7). The fall term began last week, despite the strike.
