Faculty-Governance Fracas
A struggle over faculty governance is coming to a head at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In early August, RPI's provost, Robert E. Palazzo, took the highly unusual step of disbanding the university's Faculty Senate, saying it had "lost credibility" by ignoring a directive from the university's Board of Trustees to alter its constitution, and that he feared its members would interfere with a review of the institute's faculty-governance structure.
