Facing State Cuts, U. of Georgia Abruptly Blocks Some Research Leaves
Citing imminent state-budget cuts, administrators at the University of Georgia have suspended a program that allows faculty members to take time off to do research.
Professors whose leaves have already been approved will be allowed to take them, says Arnett C. Mace Jr., the provost. But until the economy improves, he says, he will not approve any new applications. The program allows professors to take either a semester off at full pay or a year off at half-pay.
