Extra Duties of Black Professors
To the Editor:
As a black faculty member at a large, overwhelmingly white, public university located in a city with a majority-black population, I understand Jerald Walker's point of view ("Visible Man," Careers, October 12). For black faculty members at such institutions, there is often pressure to participate in university and community events that address black issues.
What Professor Walker does not discuss, however, is the additional and often far greater pressure for black
