Extension of Key Law Includes Changes
Tucked into a nine-month extension of the Higher Education Act, passed by Congress late last month and signed by President Bush, were five new provisions, including one that tightens the rules on colleges that act as lenders.
The House passed HR 609, its bill to renew the law, in March, but the Senate is still debating its version, S 1614. Both chambers are in recess until after the November election, and will reconvene for only a brief session afterward before a new Congress takes
