Excuses, Excuses: Students' Sad, Endless Stories
I noticed it midway through my first quarter as a teacher, after a few assignments had come due. Every time I had to talk to my students about deadlines, I found myself fighting the weirdest combination of fear and disgust. Just the sight of a student heading toward me on deadline day set off a wave of something like nerves, which started in my gut and ended with an involuntary wince. Couldn't figure it out.
