A former facilities manager at Webster University pleaded guilty on Monday to stealing at least $400,000 from the university by submitting spurious invoices from companies he had set up for the purpose, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The manager, Malcolm J. Murphy, gave his companies names very similar to legitimate enterprises with which Webster did business. He also forged the signatures of other university employees to further the scheme, which may have cost Webster as much as $1-million. A university official told the Post-Dispatch that insurance would cover most of the loss.
