European Nations Seek Compatible Degrees
A new effort attempts to 'harmonize' programs while preserving diversity of college systems
Most British undergraduates pursue a three-year course of study that leads to a bachelor's degree. In Belgium, students first must earn a two-year candidat degree before beginning another two-year stint required for their licencie. In Italy, the first degree, called the laurea, is roughly the equivalent of a master's awarded by a U.S.
