Recently you published two pieces involving animal-research ethics: "Playing It Safe With Research Risk" (Careers, August 12) and "U. of Wis. Suspends Primates Researcher" (The Chronicle, September 2). Both pieces speak to the fact that some people view policies requiring researchers to protect human and nonhuman research subjects as burdensome, excessive, or even unfair.
