Enrollment of Minority Freshmen Nears Pre-Hopwood Levels at U. of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin is celebrating its success in attracting a new freshman class this year that has almost the same percentage of minority students that the university had when it ended affirmative-action programs, in 1996.

The credit goes to stronger recruiting efforts and new financial-aid programs, said James W. Vick, the university's vice-president for student affairs.
