Engaging Edifices
Construction abounds on my campus. Crews of carpenters erected three buildings in the past year, and a fourth is scheduled to break ground. The buildings are impressive in one sense—they are enormous. Even so, when I look at the largest of them, I do not feel uplifted or inspired. I stroll past the structure and think, "That is one big, gray cube."
The designers took the issue of energy efficiency into account, and I applaud them for their efforts in that area. The new hall
