Energy Dept. Opens Bidding for Operation of 5 National Labs
The U.S. Energy Department officially started the competition for the contracts to operate five of its national laboratories -- the first such open bidding in the history of those labs -- in a notice published last week in the Federal Register.
Late last year, Congress passed legislation requiring the department to open the contracts for its labs, many of which are managed by universities, to competitive bidding.
