Energy: Colleges Feel Pressure to Shift From Fossil Fuels
With prices for oil, natural gas, and electricity all expected to remain high, the energy picture isn't a pretty one for many colleges — at least those that depend on traditional fuel sources.
The University of Maryland, which has proposed asking students to pay a $15-a-year surcharge to cover electricity and heating, is one of many colleges that plan to charge higher fees to cover such expenses. Others are adjusting their academic calendars to save money: Western Michigan
