Emma Goldman's Words Spark Berkeley Debate on the First Amendment
Emma Goldman, an anarchist of the early 20th century, spoke passionately about freedom of speech, and her very words have now created a First Amendment dispute at the University of California at Berkeley.
For the past two decades, the university has housed Goldman's papers.
The anarchist and feminist was imprisoned and then deported to Russia in 1919 for encouraging opposition to the draft during World War I. She died in 1940.
