Edwards Starts College-Scholarship Program Modeled After Campaign Promise

As a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004, then U.S. Sen. John Edwards talked often about his "College for Everyone" plan while stumping on the campaign trail. The proposal offered up to one year of free tuition at public colleges to students who took the appropriate college-preparatory courses in high school and spent an average of 10 hours each week in a work-study job or in community service while in college.
