Educational Excellence, Not Rankings
To the Editor:
I am amazed that the U.S. News & World Report rankings are almost exclusively based on inputs and rarely on outputs of academic institutions ("Rankings Methodology Hurts Public Institutions," The Chronicle, May 25). Never mind the fact that private institutions are exclusionary, while public institutions — at least in some measure — attempt to serve the masses. ... What about the products of these institutions?
