The article "Texas Offers a Model for Training Math and Science Teachers" (The Chronicle, December 21) implies that I said the University of Wisconsin at Madison decided to drop out of the running for becoming a UTeach site because of the program's stringent requirements. What I said was that we did not submit a proposal because UTeach wanted an exact replication of the Austin program at different sites, to the point of asking each site to use the course syllabi they
