Education Secretary Is Blasted on Budget
Education Secretary Margaret Spellings continues to be criticized by members of her own party over the Bush administration's proposals to reduce spending on the Education Department in the 2007 fiscal year and to eliminate key programs that help financially needy students go to college.
At a hearing this month before the U.S. House of Representatives appropriations subcommittee that helps set the budget for the Education Department, Republicans and Democrats alike expressed frustration
