Education Dept. Releases Final Version of Guide on Use of Standardized Tests

The U.S. Education Department's Office for Civil Rights released last month its fourth and final version of a guidebook on the use of standardized tests in admissions and other student-placement decisions.

The tone of the 92-page document has changed little since the second draft was made public roughly a year ago. That draft was significantly altered and toned down from the highly controversial original guidelines, which were released in April 1999.
