Education Dept. Punishes Ave Maria College for Student-Aid Discrepancies

Ave Maria College has received a letter from the U.S. Education Department that may result in its having to repay the federal government up to $300,000 for improper administration of student-aid programs.

The department notified the college, in Ypsilanti, Mich., that it must seek permission before distributing federal student-aid money it has on hand, and in the future must allot such dollars from its own funds and then seek reimbursement from the government. Colleges typically get the
