Education Dept. Nominee Moderates Views on Affirmative Action
Democratic senators grilled President Bush's nominee for general counsel of the Education Department last week about his views on affirmative action and high-stakes testing.
The nominee, Brian W. Jones, has sharply criticized racial preferences in the past, but he expressed more-moderate views during tough questioning at a confirmation hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.
