Education Dept. Criticized Over Negotiations on Regulations
Higher-education lobbying groups lashed out at the U.S. Education Department after learning this month that they had been left off of panels that will work with the agency to revise regulations that govern federal student-aid programs and other rules affecting colleges.
By the end of last week, the department had smoothed over differences with most of the groups. However, the American Council on Education, the umbrella group that represents colleges, was so unhappy about being excluded
