Education Department Wins a Clean Audit, Only Second One in 24 Years
For only the second time in the U.S. Education Department's 24-year history, the agency has obtained a "clean financial audit" from an independent accounting firm, Education Secretary Roderick R. Paige announced last month.
Fixing weaknesses in the department's financial management has been one of Mr. Paige's top priorities since taking office, in 2001. Getting a "clean audit" from the accounting firm, Ernst & Young, was a major achievement, he said.
