Edible Books; Pets in Peril; Food Cheats; 'Holey War'

If hamburgers, pizza, and pancakes are too much for one meal, what about a bookish snack? Those three dishes are about to inaugurate Edible, a new series from Reaktion Books, a British publisher distributed in North America by the University of Chicago Press.

In slim formats — a lot more than a soupçon, far less than a magnum — each Edible title will spotlight a food or drink in global context. The primary intent, says the series editor, Andrew F. Smith, is
