Ecumenism, Secularism, and Biblical Scholarship

In "What's Wrong With the Society of Biblical Literature?" (The Chronicle Review, November 10), Jacques Berlinerblau seriously underestimates the amount of attention that secular universities give to biblical studies. According to a recent survey by the American Academy of Religion, 14 percent of the undergraduate courses offered in public-university religion programs are in biblical studies.
