Economists Ponder Their Doctoral Programs
Though economics is less prone to navel gazing than are other social sciences, two sessions at the annual meeting of the American Economic Association held this month in Boston assessed the health of the field.
On January 6, scholars presented three studies of Ph.D. programs in economics. The studies were motivated in part by concerns about the long-term decline in the number of American-born students who choose to enter the field.
