Giving's Tough Climate: Economic Woes Put Damper on Some Donations in 2007

Giving to American charities outpaced inflation by just 1 percent last year, according to a report released this morning, and interviews with dozens of fund raisers suggest that the current state of fund raising is even weaker. Fund raisers at colleges and other organizations say that donors have been increasingly reluctant to fulfill pledges or make commitments to give large sums to capital campaigns.
