Earn Royalties Now, Avoid Conflicts of Interest Later
To the Editor:
Goldie Blumenstyk's article "Turning Patent Royalties Into a Sure Thing" (October 5) discusses in detail the financial risks and benefits of a new practice called monetizing -- the upfront purchase by a third party of the future value of a university-owned technology. Her article does not make explicit, however, an important potential benefit of the practice of monetizing apart from immediate financial gain.
