Early-Retirement Offers to Faculty Members Are Common, a Study Finds
Nearly half of all colleges have offered financial incentives to encourage faculty members to retire early at some point since 1994, according to a new report by the American Association of University Professors.
The "Survey of Changes in Faculty Retirement Policies," conducted in 2000 by the A.A.U.P.'s Committee on Retirement, covered 608 public and private colleges and universities with 75 or more full-time faculty members. It found that retirement plans varied among institutions,
