Duke Will Scale Back Its iPod Giveaway to Students
Next year's freshmen at Duke University will have to buy their own iPods if they want to be sure to get one of the popular digital music players.
The university -- which drew headlines last year when it gave a music player to each of its 1,650 first-year students -- is scaling back its giveaway this fall. Instead of handing iPods to all freshmen, Duke will give them only to students who enroll in courses that put them to substantial use.
