Duke U. President in Hot Seat as Prosecutor Drops Key Charges Against Athletes
Assailed by critics who thought he had been too lenient toward the Duke University men's lacrosse team and by those who felt he had been too quick to assume the players' guilt, Duke's president, Richard H. Brodhead, said last month that the prosecutor's decision to drop rape charges against three players threw the whole case against them into doubt.
